He appreciates that he’s loved and shielded from pain. Though, deep down, he feels that this should come with a price, that being that gaining their approval should be the whole point of his existence— he knows family is important after all, just as his father taught him, and he’d never be so selfish as to put himself first. If he ever were to disappoint his family, well— he wouldn’t know what he would do. It would kill him if he were to lose even the slightest bit of approval from his parents, and as such is easily put down by the most minute of criticisms. To avoid this pain, he does what any ideal child would do— shove every thought or feeling that he fears might be met with disdain deep into the back of his mind, and locks them away. Or at least he tries to. He’s often so busy trying to hide these thoughts and being ashamed that he can’t that he becomes quiet, coming off as asocial. He’ll become even more avoidant if you bring up any questions, especially on subjects that he’s sensitive about. He either disappears silently from the conversation, or disassociates entirely if he can find no other way to escape the conversation.
