On the slave ship taking them to Kessel, the Jedi attacked the ship and freed the slaves. However, in the battle, Alera's brother was killed. This left Alera angry and bitter. The Jedi who freed the slaves sensed Alera's strong connection to the Force. They took her to Corusant. She was then brought before the Council. All the members agreed it was too dangerous to train her because of her deep anger and hatred. One Jedi Master named Dalen Dyarron spoke up. He said that he could sense great power under her anger. Reluctantly, the Council agreed. Dalen began her training with emotion control. While the other new Padawans were practicing with lightsabers, Alera wasn't allowed to touch one. Instead, Dalen taught her to control her anger. In time, it paid off. While other Padawans grew frustrated when practicing, Alera never did. The entire Council, even Yoda, agreed that Dalen had taught her well. Later, they were sent on a mission to attack a Separatist base. During the mission, Dalen was killed. Alera and her clone force were pushed back. Alera called for reinforcements from the Republic. None came. A year later, she was the only survivor and made it off world. Immediately, she went to Corusant. There, she confronted the Senate. She did not angrily do this. She even said "I'm not angry, I'm just hurt and shocked that a Republic who says it stands for the people abandons its own army." Many Senators were surprised to here this. Alera spoke with Master Yoda and then left the Jedi Temple. She continued to fight Separatists on her own
