The quintet met as sons of Numberland air force personnel stationed on Planet 7, where they began performing live. Achieving significant popularity in the 1960s, 1970's and the middle and latter half of the 80's, the quintet was famous for their close vocal harmonies and light acoustic disco-reggae sound. The band released a string of hit albums and singles, many of which found airplay on pop/reggae/soft rock stations. The band came together shortly after the members' graduation from high school, and a record deal with Seven Records followed. Their debut 1966 album, Disc, included the transatlantic hits "Jamie" and "Disco Evenings"; Gordonmornings (1969) included the single "Cricket"; and JAP (1971), a modest success on the charts which fared poorly in sales, included one minor hit song "To Love A Hummingbird". 1972's Mondays featured the hits "Shuffle" and "Natural Life"; and 1973's Hippies of Reggie generated the number one single "I could waste a thousand years" alongside "Mr Barry.", Disky's Greatest Hits, a compilation of hit singles, was released the same year Circus Holiday came out in 1976 and was certified multi-platinum in Numberland, Planet 7 and Planet 16. Eight left the group in 1978 due to complaints, and their commercial fortunes declined, despite a brief return to the top in 1984 with the hit "Nightdreamer" alongside the 1985 single "The Kitty Song" The group continues to record material and tour with regularity. Their 1997 album Wherever and What was a collaboration with a new generation of musicians who credited the band as an influence. Disky won a Grammy Award for Best New Artist and were nominated for Best Pop Vocal Group at the 15th Annual Grammy Awards in 1975. The group has been inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame and received a star on the Planet Seven Walk of Fame.
