Mallory Malfoy | An HP FanFic | Chapter 7 | Year 2 Turns out there's a time and place for sleeping in late. Your first day of school is not one of them. We probably would have made it on time to Charms, if a certain someone *Zac* hadn’t REFUSED to get up and INSISTED on breakfast. Consequence, detention on Saturday with Flitwick for one hour. But he was chill and everyone likes him so we weren’t worried. Charms class was taken with the Ravenclaws this year. I scanned the room trying to spot familiar faces but didn’t seem to find any, guess everyone had changed a lot over the summer. Nova for example had gotten her ears pierced and had dyed the tips of her hair red. Adrian had gotten taller (shocker) and seemed to have gotten more confident in the way he talked and walked. Me, my hair had grown longer and I had an abundance of freckles thanks to endless days in the sun. Turns out the reason I couldn't find familiar faces was because we 2nd year Gryffindors had been paired with 4th year Ravenclaws. Apparently we were to "learn from each other" and "help improve one another". Seemed like a waste of time since the 4th years would just make fun of us. And I was right. I got paired with Jade Black. How to describe her, daunting. She was at least 5'6". Waist length black hair in a ponytail with streaks of green and eyes to match. She only spoke to me unless forced to- after all, this was a group effort. Not sure what I did but hopefully her and I could break the ice, we did have to be partners all year long after all. Next was Transfiguration. Simple enough. At least for me being a master baker and all. We had Herbology with the Hufflepuffs next. That's when I decided to ask- "Have either one of you seen Bentley yet?" "I saw him at dinner." Said Nova. "I'm sure we'll see him in the greenhouses." Added Adrian. "Indeed you will." Came a voice from behind us. Turning, we saw it was none other than Bentley himself, walking with fellow Gryffindor Ruby Turner. "Hey!" I said and then silently cursed myself for saying it so loud and weird. "How was your summer?" I asked in a more normal voice. "Alright. Mostly skating and watching movies with my friends. What about you?" "At home with my mom. And visiting my dads side of the family. Nothing note worthy." "I'm sorry. Maybe this summer we'll have to get together and hang out. I have yet to set foot inside a muggle mall, maybe you can teach me the ways?" "Yeah, sure. That would be fun." I replied with a smile. A smile that Bentley graciously returned. "It's a date then." And that was when my brain exploded. Not literally of course, gross. And ow. Let's just say I was not focused on anything for the rest of the day except that one line. I mean, what did it mean? Did he actually think of it like a date date or did he just say it just to say it? I had to force myself to calm down. I was starting to become a character in a Muggle book, Sophie Foster to be exact. My reaction to Bentley right now is pretty much her reaction in Stellerlune when she realizes she has a crush on the best character in the whole series. I excelled at Potions and DADA (of course) and finally breathed during our half hour before dinner. "Hey Zachy. Have a good first day?" Adrian asked his brother. "I would have, if I wasn't late to every class." We all laughed. "You'll get used to this place." Replied Adrian. "Just gotta find the right people." Turning to us he said, "I know I did." "Yeah, you three are lucky. I can't wait to find my Golden Trio." "It'll take time," Chimed Nova, "But in the end, it's worth it." And it is, I thought. Because where would I be without them? Nova Dyer and Adrian Jackson weren't just my best friends, they were my family. The family I got to choose and would love for the rest of my life. I knew that we would have our bumps, heck, maybe even tomorrow we would have a fight, but something told me that us three, would NEVER truly say goodbye. I was theirs and they were mine. To love. To smile and laugh with. Forever & Always.
