Warning: This is really long, so I hope you have time. Here we go! “Oh, joy,” Amber grumbled, sitting down next to Ayrida holding a stack of books. “More homework. I’m just glad the library exists, or I’d be toast.” The library in the Academy reminded Ayrida of her home. Tall bookshelves containing dusty books created a maze, while a few large oak tables in the center of the library served as a study space. Ayrida sighed and brushed a few strands of her black hair out of her face. “Yup. I think I’ll start with history. What about you?” “Yeah, me too.” Amber picked up a book from the stack and began to read. Ayrida pulled out a book she had picked out earlier about the Firebringers. They were people with the ability to control fire. This wasn’t part of her homework, but it was still history, so it technically counted. The Firebringers lived long ago, back during the early founding of the Sun Empire. The first Emperor was a Firebringer. They were respected and feared by everyone at first. Later, after the nomadic tribe that began the Empire had fully settled, many started to feel restless around the Firebringers. Many feared that the Firebringers would try to take over the Empire, even though their first Emperor was a Firebringer himself. As the years passed by, having a fire power became more rare because of where the main city of the Empire was located. The first village was in the mountains, where rain and snow were frequent. Eventually, the Firebringers went extinct because the climate was too cold for their fire abilities. Ayrida looked up. “Amber, I know in this book it says that people feared the Firebringers because they were afraid the Firebringers would try and take over the Empire. The thing is, there isn’t any evidence that the Firebringers did anything wrong. Why would they be afraid?” she asked her friend. “Well, maybe they weren’t afraid of the Firebringers, but afraid of fire itself.” Amber replied, putting her book down. “Remember, the nomadic tribe that first settled in the Golden Mountain Range were used to the cold. It’s just that some of them had fire powers.” “Huh. I guess so.” Ayrida leaned back in her chair. Still, it seemed strange. After all, who would like the cold, yet have the ability to control fire? “It doesn’t matter,” Ayrida told herself. It did.
