This writing competition is hosted and judged by myself (Gigi @Imacreamoo) and Fi (@Firetender). Deadline IS EXTENDED TO 14TH OF JULY Please contact Fi or I if you need an extension. Rules, judging policy, prizes, & tips below! Please read ALL of it. Rules: -> The maximum word count is 3,000. Any stories above this will not be judged. -> Your work must be a piece of genre fiction. You must specify ONE genre. -----> Ex. Your historical romance must be entered as either historical fiction or romance. -----> We ask that any retellings be entered as a different category as you can rewrite a fairytale without the fantasy elements or with horror elements, etc. -----> Genres include: fantasy, historical fiction, horror, nonfiction, realistic fiction, romance, science fiction, thriller. -----> If you don't see your genre listed above, don't feel restricted! We accept other genres as well; just list it in your form. -> All work must be written by you. No plagiarism, no AI. -----> Multiple authors ARE allowed. -> We permit short stories, novel excerpts, and stories in verse. Poetry, essays, and fanfiction are not allowed. -> Multiple entries are allowed, but they must be in seperate genres. -----> A seperate horror and thriller entry may not be allowed to the possibility of us having to judge them as 1 category. We'll inform you if you're 2nd entry cannot count due to genre simularity. -> Your entry must follow Scratch's community guidelines. Judging Policy: -> If there are not enough entries per genre, we may merge several genres into one judging pool. -----> Works submitted as thrillers may be judged alongside horror works. -> We will judge your entries based on three criteria: -----> Spelling and grammar -----> Content - How well-paced is your story? How developed are your characters? Are you showing and not telling? -----> Genre - Can we tell what genre you're entering this for without looking? Do we feel you have utilised the genre's tropes in your work? --------->Genre and content will be prioritized over spelling and grammar, but that doesn't mean you should slack off! -> Our own preferences will not influence placements (fingers crossed). -> If we believe your work goes against Scratch's community guidelines, we will reach out to you and give you a week to make the needed edits to your entry. Prizes: -> 1st place of each genre can choose between fanfiction or fanart of your entry. Fanfictions will be 1,500 words minimum. -> If we get enough entries, runner-ups will receive a playlist to accompany their entry. Playlists will be a minimum of 15 songs. -> ALL entries will receive feedback from the judges if requested. Tips: -> Double-space or indent your paragraphs. -> Don't be afraid to subvert your genre's tropes. -> Similarly, don't be afraid of using tropes you feel are cliché (ex. the chosen one). -> Exploring your characters and setting is as important, if not more, in this competition than the plot (but don't completely neglect plot). -> Choose a genre you are well-read on or have experience writing. -> TVTropes is about to become your best friend To Submit: Title Piece / Work Count / Link to piece (must be on scratch) / Genre / Would you like to recieve feedback?
