Description

Today was the day of the playdate. Or hang-out. I wasn’t sure what to call it. It didn’t matter, because Ikari wasn’t bothered no matter what I called it. I preferred saying hang-out since that’s exactly what it was. I talked about it with Father, and he agreed to drop us off at home and to trust that we don't act badly. Although, he wasn’t too worried about me. I’m always good. I hopped out of the car to greet Ikari, then I let her sit next to me in the back. I usually sit in the passenger seat next to Father, but today I wanted to sit next to Ikari. After getting dropped off at home, Father made sure that we promised not to open the door to strangers and to only play inside or in the backyard. After he left, I showed Ikari my room. “Woah! Your house is very big!” Ikari said, astonished. I’ve never really visited any smaller homes, so I didn’t understand if it was all that true or not. Still, I was happy that Ikari was impressed. “Yes, and this is my room,” I said. My room was simple, with a bed, a bookshelf, a nightstand, a wardrobe, and a few other things. Above my bed was a cross, which I sometimes thought might fall on me. I had a lot of books, but only one plushy, which was of a yellow cat. I heard Ikari snicker behind me, “It looks just like you! I told you, you are a kitty!” she teased. I rolled my eyes, “If I’m a cat, you’d be a dog.” I said. She stopped and then thought to herself. I wondered what she was thinking about. She then asked, “What dog breed would I be?” I thought about it, but considering her looks, it wasn’t too hard to come up with an answer. “Maybe a Doberman or a German Shepherd,” I told her. She smiled a bit bigger, “I like those dogs! They look cool and tough!” She said, then looked at me. “If you were a cat breed, I think you’d be an Abyssinian,” she told me. I didn't know which cat breed that was, so I changed the question. “What dog breed would I be?” I asked. She quickly had an answer, “Basenji!” she said. I didn't think I looked like one, so I couldn’t help but ask, “Why a basenji?” She shrugged, “I heard that they are intelligent and independent dogs. They are also known to be cat-like” I couldn’t tell if the last part about them being cat-like was her teasing me again, or just a random fact. Maybe it was both. For the rest of the hangout, we talked about random things such as what fish we’d be, what our favorite desserts are, and silly, unimportant things such as that. I didn’t mind the simple conversations, they were fun. I liked knowing the small details such as Ikari doesn’t like vanilla, and that cheesecakes are one of her favorite desserts. At first, I was unsure, but now I thought that a sleepover would be fun. Ikari is good at talking, and she doesn't mind it if I am not as good as her at talking, she was just happy to be near me. After a while, it was time for her to go. I was a bit disappointed that it had to end so soon, so I told her goodbye before she left. She seemed to be sad she had to leave too. We promised to see each other tomorrow and have a sleepover.
