-SPOILERS FOR THE END OF TOTK- Link was stuck in the dragon’s teeth. Ganondorf had performed the act of draconification, and now the huge, black dragon was rising into the sky. Link struggled to pull himself out, but it seems he was unable to. Is this it? He thought. Will this demon dragon destroy all of Hyrule, and me with it? How am I supposed to kill an immortal dragon? A familiar roar sounded out, echoing across the sky. Link looked up to see the Light Dragon, flying quickly and gracefully towards him. While the Light Dragon was very big, it was small in comparison to the Demon Dragon. As the Light Dragon approached, the Demon Dragon opened its jaws, ready to strike. The white dragon dove through the air and under the bigger dragon’s mouth. Link fell out of its teeth, and the Light Dragon caught him. He clutched desperately at the white hair on the dragon’s head. The Demon Dragon redirected itself, turning to face the Light Dragon. Both dragons slowed in the air, and Link slowly made it to his feet, in a defensive stance as he faced the monster before him, with a red mane of hair and large demonic horns. He reached over his shoulder, gripping the handle of the Master Sword and pulling it from its sheath. The blade was fully restored now, and it let out a blue glow. It was time to finally defeat the Demon King, with Zelda at his side. He looked up, determination in his eyes. It is time. . . . Link’s eyes fluttered open. It took him a minute to fully regain consciousness, but then he realized he was falling. He was used to this feeling by now. He shifted his position to an upright one, and looked down. Zelda. Zelda was falling. Rauru, Sonia, and Link’s powers combined had reversed the draconification spell, while within the sacred realm. Link’s arm was back to normal. Everything suddenly dawned on him. He began to dive, faster and faster through the clouds towards Zelda. I will protect you, he thought. It is my duty. . .and my desire. The air was whipping past his face as he got closer. Zelda was still unconscious, her arms out in front of her. Link reached out his hand, reaching towards her. I won’t let you down again, he thought. I won’t let you slip through my fingers this time. He reached desperately, further and further until their fingers brushed against each other. Then he made one last move, grabbing her hand in his. He pulled her towards her, and embraced her as they fell together from the sky. Zelda. . .he thought. I’m here now. . . And they plummeted into the waters below. . . . The wind was gently blowing. The sun was shining. My eyes fluttered open to find myself lying in a grassy field. I shifted, and slowly made my way into a sitting position. I didn’t feel like I was fully conscious. I looked up to see someone crouching next to me. Link. Wait. . .what? “Link? How are you. . .” I trailed off, finally remembering what happened. I reached up towards my Secret Stone. “But I was. . .” I felt dazed, a bit confused, as though I had just woken up. I looked up at Link again, more closely. Over his shoulder, sitting in its sheath, was the Master Sword. “Hello, Princess.” It chimed, flashing with blue light. I looked at Link. “It reached you. . .after all.” I said. His eyes seemed to slowly light up, like they were on the verge of tears. I sat there for a moment, thinking, and trying to regain my senses. Then, I suddenly realized what this all meant. “He’s gone. . .the Demon King. . .I’m not in a dream, right? You did it. Oh Link, you really did it!” He smiled faintly. I felt a rising in my chest, a new sense of hope, and relief, one I had not felt in a long time. I was so glad that I was with Link again. But then I thought of something else. “But how am I. . .” I trailed off once more, lost in thought again. I had swallowed the Secret Stone, becoming an immortal dragon to heal the sword. And then. . . I stood up, and Link did too. “No. I understand.” I looked over at the castle, which looked like it had been pushed up out of the ground. Waterfalls were trailing off the sides of the stone, and even in ruins, it was a beautiful sight. “I had been sleeping all this time. But when I felt something. . .like a warm, loving embrace, I woke up.” The sun beamed rays of light onto the castle, birds flying by. I closed my eyes, taking it all in. I had never felt such joy like I did at that moment. “Thank you.” I opened my eyes, smiling and turning towards Link. “Link, I met such wonderful people. I saw Hyrule as it was. I have so much to tell you. So much happened!” I closed my eyes again, before opening them. “Oh Link. . .I’m home!” I smiled. Link looked at me, a grateful look in his eyes. He smiled faintly as well. “Welcome back, Zelda,” he said. I took a deep breath, bolted forward and embraced him, tears in my eyes. He hugged me back. “I’m so glad you’re okay. . .I missed you.” He said. “Me too.” I replied. (to be continued in the epilogue)
