Gracie is one of my favorite characters from my novel, The Dragon World Chronicles. She's not afraid to use a bit of strong language, a tough female character, and often is the one to save Fred from danger. ---Excerpt--- Chapter V: Dragon Blood (Gracie Interlude 1) All right, all right. You don’t get to steal the story for the whole time, Fred. I am here, listening to you babble on. It’s time for a Gracie Interlude! So, as dear Fred was “seized and dragged away”, I was out to hunt. I knew it was time to, and, hey, who can resist the crunch of tiny rodent bones under the teeth? So, anyway, I was out. I stalked through the streets, wincing as sharp rocks bit my paws. I was stalking the perfect fat mouse through. The mouse supposedly had the brains of a cat, so it was worthwhile. That’s another tip: slow or inactive rodents are bad news. But, as I was stalking, I didn’t notice bad news, or, I should say, two bad news. Black cat-shapes, hidden in the shadows of the tall buildings, creeps with ugly eyes glowing. As I finally caught up to the mouse, what I didn’t notice was a thin string dangling from it. (Fred says to not give spoilers. I am not, Fred. NOW he says to speak in 3rd cat. Just because you’re High Captain of the Lava Forces does N-O-T NOT mean you can command ME. Because I tell everyone that two creeps were creepily creeping does not mean they don’t know this spells TRAP!!!!!) Suddenly, the string pulls upward. The two creepy cats who were stalking me suddenly jump on me and jerk my head up. “Hello Pussycat!” Says a high and taunting voice. “Ayar! Aren’t you supposed to be mending Mrs. Skywind’s garden after you blew it up with that totally wicked bomb?” I say, provoking her. Her eyes narrowed. “Don’t you go sticking your snout into what you don’t need to know about, pussycat. I am. But some certain creature says to capture you, so we did. Don’t you have brains to know that was a trap?” “Course I do, you silly little creep.” I replied, grunting as her brother Kyle’s claws dug into my neck, drawing blood. “You speak up, insignificant worm, or we’ll cut a switch o’ willow bark an’ hit you.” Kyle said, in a deep rumbly voice. “Congrats. You must have had language arts at ol’ Skywind’s today,” I shot at him. “There is a time and place for a smart mouth. This is not it, Pussycat.” Ayar scoffed. I rolled to the side. Kyle obviously hadn’t thought I would do that, so he stumbled and fell on his back. Ayar leaped to catch me, and failed, her paws catching on empty air. I stood a small distance away so I could taunt her, and I noticed a small difference on them. What was it? “You poor excuses for cats are still standing there. Why? Am I too tough to catch?” I teased. Kyle lunged. I slowly stepped out of the way, watching as the bully wheezed his way up. And then I noticed what was different about Kyle. With a shock, my face probably expressing horror, I looked up. Kyle’s eyes were blazing gold. The very same shade as the Dragon from my “dreams”. I looked to see if Ayar had them, too. She did, and grinned wickedly at me with dragonlike teeth, unfolding red bat-like wings. Kyle did the same. “Too scared? We’ll show you scared!” she whispered savagely, and threw back her head and roared.
