Mallory Malfoy| An HP FanFic| Chapter 1 Year 1 "Mum! If we don't leave now I'll miss the train." I admit I could be bratty sometimes but if I didn't leave now I'd be late. For Hogwarts. The school of every young witch and wizards dream. There was only half a chance that I would get in because while my mother- Matilda Lucy Gregory- was a witch, my father was a muggle. My father- James Lucas Gregory- knew full well about the wizarding world and his wife's past. In fact he loved the fact that his two girls were quite literally 'other worldly'. He said that even if mum hadn't been a witch, she would be loved the same as she is now. "Just give your father and I a moment Mallory!" Came my mother's voice. I was 11, how on earth was I supposed to be so patient! But I understood, I was leaving for school and mum would start traveling abroad for Ministry work again, leaving dad alone for months at a time. Finally both parents came out of the house and to the car. Seeing the tears in my father's eyes I ran into his arms and held on tight. We stayed there in the front yard for what seemed like forever, saying nothing and everything all at once. We were like that- my father and I- we were able to convey all that we wanted to say in little to no words. "Look at me my little serpent." He said using my nickname. "You are going to love it there. So many classes to learn things in, so many friends to make." "What if no one likes me?" He opened his mouth in shock, "How someone could not like you is beyond insane and impossible. You will make so many friends you'll get dizzy." He stroked my hair and kissed my freckles, "I love you to the ends of the earth Mallory." "I love you till the stars stop shining daddy." With a final hug and kiss, mum and I loaded into the car and drove toward my future. "All right, you positive that you have absolutely everything?" "Mum. I've been packed for months. If I need something I'll write, promise." "Oh all right." She fussed with my robes some more before pulling me in for a final hug. "Listen, learn lots. Make friends. Make lots of memories." Pulling back I said, "All that work just to rumple my robes?" She rolled her eyes and smiled. "I love you mummy. I'll write as often as possible, okay?" Nodding, I noticed my mother close to tears. I gave her a final hug and kiss before boarding the Hogwarts Express. Looking out the window, I smiled big and gave a wave as the train started to roll. She smiled and waved back until we had disappeared from each others sight. I noticed that the compartment I was in had been emptied except for me so I decided to claim it for myself. After the treat trolley had come through, a knock sounded one the door. "Do you mind if we sit here?" Turning I saw a boy and girl standing in the doorway. The girl- the one who had spoken- had ice blue eyes, tan skin, black hair in braids and was about the same height as me. The boy had brown sugar colored skin, light brown eyes, freckles and curly black hair. He stared at me with such intensity I didn't know if it was meant to be threatening or observing. "Hi there! Yeah of course you can sit here." Once they sat down I said, "I'm Gregory. Mallory Gregory." "I'm Nova Dyer. Pleased to make you acquaintance." "And I'm Adrian Jackson." Smiling, I offered them both sweets and we sat there munching until Adrian asked what house we hoped to be sorted into. Nova immediately responded. "Gryffindor! It's the best one and has the cutest boys." Laughing I replied, "Not Hufflepuff I guess? I'm not smart enough for Ravenclaw or sneaky like a Slytherin but not sure if I have the guts to be a Gryffindor. What about you Adrian?' "Ravenclaw or Slytherin. I'm nerdy but also have a great ambitious drive." We talked a little more until the castle was in sight. In fact the whole first year compartments quieted at the sight. We were ushered onto lantern lit boats and shuffled single file in front of the one and only Sorting Hat. As it called of names I got nervous, what if my confusion of which house to be in also confused that hat and I was placed in Hufflepuff? I took a breath and hoped for Slytherin or Ravenclaw. "Gregory, Mallory." I sat on the wooden stool and had the Hat placed upon my head. "Tricky, tricky, tricky. You fit all four, but since I can't place you in all four let's go with GRYFFINDOR!" I exhaled and went to join Nova and we were later joined by Adrian. It was at this moment that I turned to them and asked, "Friends?" They exchanged a smile and replied "Friends" in unison. It was at that moment I realized that this was the start of the best years of my life. Or was it?...
