A particle system is a technique used in game physics, motion graphics, and computer graphics. It employs numerous tiny sprites, 3D models, or other graphic objects to simulate certain types of "fuzzy" phenomena that are difficult to reproduce with traditional rendering techniques. These phenomena typically involve highly chaotic systems, natural occurrences, or processes induced by chemical reactions. Examples include simulating fire, explosions, smoke, flowing water (such as waterfalls), sparks, falling leaves, rock falls, clouds, fog, snow, dust, meteor tails, stars, and galaxies.
