One I am perched in the old oak tree, the branches creek underneath me, and the wind is blowing in my face making my cheeks red and my fingers numb. My legs are swinging, I can only hold on with one hand and I am so high I see all the way the village, the risk of falling is insane yet I am not scared. Falling from a tree isn't scary, the fact that right now my mum knows something about me that I don't is scary, in fact, it's terrifying. I wish I was the one being told, not my mum not anyone but me! It's about me I should be the one to hear it first! It's ridiculous, it's about my brain yet I am barely involved, don't I know my mind better than anyone even my parents? "Can you come here, please sweetie?" My mum calls from the doorway, pulling me from my thoughts "The call's over." "So what did they say?" I whisper knowing she can't hear me but too nervous to move. "Cassie, come down I can't hear you and it's dangerous up so high, I've told you before" Mum says walking over to the tree and looking up at me. "Fine, I'm coming." I sigh climbing down so fast I'm practically falling. Once my feet are firmly planted on the ground I ask "So what did they say?" "Well Cass, they said there's enough evidence to prove that you are autistic." She says pulling me into a hug. Not sure how to reply I stutter "OK, I'm going to go do... something" and run off "Honey wait up!" She cries after me, I don't reply instead I throw open the front door and run upstairs, ignoring my sister and dad's calls I slam my door. "Sweetheart, are you OK?" My dad knocks on my bedroom door but before I can reply he walks in anyway. "Yeah, I'm fine." I mutter not looking up from my phone "Do you want to talk?" My mum asks appearing in the doorway. "Yeah but... I don't know what to say." "Well just say how you feel." "But I don't know how I feel!" I sniff "And I don't know what I should be feeling!" "Oh, Cassie." Dad sighs stroking my hair just the way I like it. "There's no right or wrong way to feel about it." Mum sits down on the bed next to Dad. "I know that, I guess I'm relieved and glad." "Us too, and I'm happy it's all sorted now." Mum smiles and kisses my cheek. "We love you kiddo!" Dad smiles “No matter what.” Mum adds as they both rap their arms around me squeezing me tightly “Any room for me?” my nine year old sister whispers, leaning on the door frame. “Always Tia, always!” Mum grins pulling her into the hug. But before Tia can snuggle in our family dog Woody leaps onto the bed knocking us over and licking Dad’s face, me and Tia collapse laughing and Mum tries and fails to keep a straight face! “well.” I remark when I finally stop laughing quite as hard “I think any chances of this being a solemn family moment are officially ruined!” Everyone bursts out laughing again!
