So Severus (snake-cat) and Searing (the dog) were part of some plan to rule over the animals that didn’t possess magic or other powers. Searing was reluctant to join at the start, but only did so to preserve his family’s pure-blood reputation. When Searing realized that Severus wasn’t really going to “rule” the non-magic animals as much as kill them unnecessarily, he quit the plan. Severus was mad so he tracked Searing down and killed him.
