(minor spoilers for TotK memories) This is one of those theories that isn’t very mind-blowing or anything, but just kinda makes sense. So in the background of two of TotK’s memories (The Gerudo Assault and A Show of Fealty) we see these two figures behind Ganondorf. They are the only Gerudo besides him with green skin, and they have these golden masks with gems on them. One wears red and one wears blue (I also found this cool fanart of them on google so I used it in the thumbnail). It’s commonly believed that these two people are the same as the Twinrova from Ocarina of Time, which isn't that far fetched considering that they are very old in OoT. While this is a cool reference, what role could they have played in the actual story? I think I have a few answers. We know in Ocarina of Time, the Twinrova were the ones who raised Ganondorf, and helped him in his quest for the Triforce. In TotK, we don’t really know much about Ganondorf’s past, so while it is a possibility that it is the same with TotK Ganondorf, we can’t say for sure. But they could have played a role in different ways. In the Gerudo Assault memory, we see that the Gerudo army is wielding gloom weapons, the same as the ones Phantom Ganon and Ganondorf use. We know that these weapons have magical life-draining properties, and this memory shows they existed before Ganondorf acquired the Secret Stone, so he might not have been powerful enough to create them back then. Another detail is that on the weapons, there is small text that when translated, reads the names “Kotake” and “Koume” which just so happen to be the Twinrova’s names. So it isn’t bold to assume that it was the Twinrova, using their dark magic, who actually created the gloom weapons, not Ganondorf. There is also that pipe which one Gerudo soldier wields in that memory as well, which possibly could have used some sort of magic to control the Molduga, and could have been enchanted by the Twinrova as well. We can’t say for sure though. Another interesting thing is that in the “Sonia is Caught by Betrayal” memory (totally original name) we see Phantom Zelda, which (spoiler alert if u haven't completed the crisis at Hyrule castle quest) is later revealed to be Phantom Ganon in disguise. And we know this is Phantom Ganon because when she disappears, she turns into a cloud of gloom that then dissipates. But this was also before Ganondorf acquired the Secret Stone and became the Demon King, so he also wouldn’t have the power to create phantom versions of himself. Which is why I also think that Phantom Zelda was a creation of the Twinrova. They were there during “A Show of Fealty” and knew what she looked like. So yeah. This isn’t really a mind blowing theory, but more of an interesting headcanon that makes a lot of sense. But thinking about this theory actually stemmed another, more crazy, and less likely theory that doesn’t have a lot of evidence supporting it but is an interesting idea nonetheless. It’s regarding Ganondorf, so comment if you want to hear about it!
