This spinoff project demonstrates that blending complementary colors with a check pattern does not produce the same neutral gray as when blending them using transparency. Click the button in the top right corner for more info.
For reference, I have included actual neutral 50% gray (the backdrop) and a check pattern using black and white pixels. Note that the check pattern appears quite a bit brighter than 50% gray.
