Chapter 5 // Sal Sal leant on Mal as they reached Blake and Fay’s base, Fay stood with a massive smile on her face, “Forgetting about that meeting, I’ve almost finished your crutches, Sal!” They said. “Oh my goodness! Thank you!” Sal said, grinning back at them. Fay rushed into the base and came out with the mostly complete crutches, handing them to Sal. She took it, and put it into position below her arm and began trying to walk. It took a bit getting used to but it was working, cheers went around the group both for Sal and Fay. “We can finally get back to base!” Mal said, hugging her sister. “Yup! And we’ll come with you just to make sure you can get back safe, you’ve already been attacked once, we don’t want it to happen again!” Blake said with a smile. “Thank you guys so much!” Sal said, hugging Blake and Fay. She felt Blake tense up beside her so she left them go. The group began walking through the woods, towards the mountain and river, the journey was quick, but it would have been quicker if Sal was quicker but she didn’t want to overuse or break the crutches. “Come on, we’re almost there,” Mal said with a smile, as the trees began to thin out. Everyone could see the mountainside with the waterfall and a small dirt hut next to it. “Ahh, yes, home sweet home,” Sal said sarcastically. “Welcome to mi casa” Mal said spinning to face the others with a huge smile on her face, her hands shaking a bit. “Hey, it’s our house,” Sal said with a laugh, bumping into Mal a little bit. “And I believe this is where we leave you,” Blake said with a soft sort of smile. “Take care and remember if you need any help, just send us a message,” Fay said. Mal and Sal waved them off and watched as they walked off into the other direction. It had been a day since Blake and Fay had returned Sal and Mal back to their base and Sal wasn’t adjusting well. “I can’t sleep, it’s to quiet without Fay’s snoring.” “Haha, well, sorry I’m a silent sleeper,” Mal laughed. The pair had been trying to get a bit more used to using their newfound abilities, and for Sal, it seemed to be something her injury didn’t affect. She could breathe underwater, which was a good thing too, she had found that out the hard way. She had been collecting resources like sand at the bottom of the pool that formed around the bottom of the waterfall and hadn’t been paying too much attention and usually, she could tell when she was running out of breath, yet this time, she never felt anything. It was only when she resurfaced to find Mal looking worriedly into the water when she found out how long she’d been down there. An entire hour. An entire hour had passed while she was under the water. This had been shocking and rather terrifying to find out but she was rather excited and after some practise, she was figuring it out more than ever. She even realised that swimming made her feel relaxed, to the point where being on land for large amounts of time made her feel weak, lightheaded and nauseous even. But this was only the beginning of the problems, soon something was going to change everything, something that no person could ignore, and it wouldn’t just affect the sisters.
